Certainly the year of Glam Rock in the UK music chart-☺

 UK No1 Singles include Sweet with 'Blockbuster', Slade 'Cum On Feel The Noize' Wizzard 'See My Baby Jive', Suzy Quatro 'Can The Can', Slade 'Skweeze Me Pleeze Me', Wizzard 'Angel Fingers' and Slade Merry Xmas Everybody'.

 US No1 Singles included Elton John with 'Crocodile Rock', Rolling Stones with 'Angie', Grand Funk Railroad 'We're An American Band'.Not such an interesting mix as the UK!

Top ten top selling singles Worldwide this year included The Rolling Stones with 'Angie' ,Grand Funk Railroad 'We're An American Band', Elton John 'Crocodile Rock' and 'Goodbye Yellowbrick Road' and Sweet 'Ballroom Blitz'.

Top ten selling album Worldwide included Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon', Led Zeppelin 'Houses Of The Holy' ,The Rolling Stones 'Goats Head Soup', Mike Oldfield 'Tubular Bells' and Deep Purple 'Made In Japan'.


Jan 73 - Aerosmith released their self 
titled debut album which reaches No21
in the US but fails to make an impact
in the UK chart.

Feb 73 - Alice Cooper hit No 1 in the US 
and UK album chart with 'Billion Dollar 
Babies'.
The album contained the hit single Elected.


Feb 73 - Elton John had his first No1 
single in US with 'Crocodile Rock' it
reached No5 in the UK.
The song would be taken from the album
'Don't Shoot Me I 'm Only The Piano Player'.



Mar 73 - Pink Floyd released their iconic album
'Dark Side Of The Moon'. This was their eighth
studio album and would go on to become one of
the best selling albums of all time.




Mar 73 - Roxy Music release their second album
'For Your Pleasure' which hits No4 in the UK.
It would be the final album with keyboard player
Eno. It contains the singles 'Do The Strand' and 


Mar 73 - Led Zeppelin release their 5th studio
album 'Houses of The Holy'. It hits No1 in the US 
and UK .





May 73 - Roy Wood of The Move and ELO forms
glam rock band Wizzard and release their debut
album. The single 'See My Baby Jive' hits No1 in
the UK.

May 73 - The first release by Virgin Records is 
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.
Initial sales are slow but it went on to become 
one of the best selling albums of all time.




June 73 - Detroit singer Suzy Quatro signs for 
Mickie Most record label Rak. She released her 
debut album which included the No1 hit single


Jul 73 - Queen release their self titled debut album.
Despite positive views the album only reached
No24 in the UK chart. It included the hit single

 

Sept 73 - Grand Funk Railroad had their fifth US
US top ten Album with 'We're An American Band'.
The title track is released as a single and hits No1 
in the US.


 Sept 73 - UK glam rock band The Sweet have their
6th UK chart hit with ' Ballroom Blitz '







 Oct 73 - Genesis release their 5th studio album
'Selling England By The Pound'. It reaches No3
in the UK album chart. It included 'Cinema Show'
a live favourite.



 Oct 73 - Elton John has his second UK and US
No1 album with 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'.
It goes on to become his best selling album. The 
title track hits No6 in the UK and No2 in US.



 Nov 73 - John Lennon releases his 7th studio
album 'Mind Games'. It reached No 13 in UK and
No 9 in the US. The title track did not do so well
as a single reaching No 26 in the UK and No 18
in the US.
