  Popularity of Glam/Glitter rock continues to grow in the UK with hits from T Rex, Slade, Alice Cooper, Sweet and David Bowie.
   John Lennon's US Visa expires and he was asked to leave the country.

  UK No1 Singles - T Rex 'Telegram Sam,T Rex 'Metal Guru' Slade 'Take Me Back Ome',
Alice Cooper 'Schools Out', Rod Stewart 'You Wear It Well' and Slade 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now'
  US No1 Singles - Neil Young 'Heart Of Gold'.

   In the top ten selling world wide singles were Neil Young 'Heart Of Gold', Moody Blues 'Nights In White Satin'.
   Top ten selling albums worldwide included Neil Young 'Harvest', Rolling Stones 'Exile On Main Street', Deep Purple 'Machine Head', David Bowie 'Ziggy Stardust', Jethro Tull 'Thick As A Brick', Elton John 'Honky Chateau'.


Mar 72 -Neil Young hits No1 in 
the UK and US with his fourth 
album 'Harvest'. The albums lead
single 'Heart of Gold' hit No1 in
the US, No10 in UK.



Apr 72 - Deep Purple release their 
sixth album 'Machine Head' which
tops the UK charts. It contains
the classic 'Smoke On The Water'.



Apr 72 - Wishbone Ash reach No3
in the UK with their third album
'Argus'. Sounds and Music Maker
voted it the best album of 1972. 



May 72 - The Rolling Stones release
their double album 'Exile On Main St'.
It went on to reach No1 in UK and US.
The lead sing 'Tumbling Dice' reached 
No5 in the UK, No7 in US.



May 72 - Uriah Heep release their fourth
album 'Demons & Wizards'.The album
included two of their best known songs




June 72 - David Bowie releases his fifth 
From Mars'. A landmark in the glitter/
glam rock movement of the 70's.




June 72 - Roxy Music release their debut
album which reaches No10 in the UK.
It included the single 'Virginia Plain'
which went on to reach No4 in the UK.




July 72 - Mott The Hoople team up with
David Bowie and release the glam/glitter
rock anthem 'All The Young Dudes'. It 
reached No3 in the UK charts. Bowie 
produced the album of the same name.



July 72 - Elton John has his highest
charting single to date with 'Rocket Man.
Taken from his 5th album 'Honky Chateau'
it reaches No2 in the UK ,No1 in the US.




Aug 72 - Alice Cooper topped the UK chart
with his anthem 'Schools Out' It was taken 
from their fifth album of the same name.
Probably the song that helped him become
such a big star in the UK.



Sept 72 - Argent, formed by former Zombies 
keyboard player Rod Argent Hit the charts 
with 'Hold Your Head Up'.Lead vocals were
performed by Russ Ballard.




Sept 72 - Slade had their third No1 single
with 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now'. It was 
taken from their third album 'Slayed'. It was
the third of their six number one hits.




Nov 72 - The Moody Blues had a No3
hit in US and No9 in UK with the 
re-release of their 1967 single 'Nights
In White Satin'. The song originally 
reached No9 in the UK in 1968.



Nov 72 - Lou Reed released his second
studio album 'Transformer'. It went on
to reach No 13 in the UK. The album 
was produced by David Bowie. It included
'Walk On The Wildside' which reached 
No10 in the UK.
